"SNCF Réseau" as Infrastructure Manager is in charge, under the aegis of the French Member State, of defining and applying the strategy related to the roll out of ERTMS on the High Speed and Conventional lines.

High speed lines

 

East European High Speed Line 

  • Line from Paris (Vaires) to Strasbourg (Vendenheim)
  • Lenght of the line: 406 km
  • Max speed on the line: 320 km/h
  • ETCS level used on the line: Level 2
  • Supplier for the infrastructure: Ansaldo STS France
  • Date of commissioning of the line: December 2013 (Part 1)  / July 2016 (Part 2)

SEA (South European Altantic) High Speed Line

  • Line from Tours (Chambray-les-Tours) to Bordeaux (Ambarès)
  • Lenght of the line: 302 km
  • Max speed on the line: 320 km/h
  • ETCS level used on the line: Level 2
  • Supplier for the infrastructure: Ansaldo STS France
  • Date of commissioning of the line: July 2017

BPL (Bretagne – Pays de Loire) High Speed Line

  • Line from Le Mans (Connerré) to Rennes (Cesson-Sévigné)
  • Lenght of the line: 182 km
  • Max speed on the line: 320 km/h
  • ETCS level used on the line: Level 2

Conventional Lines

First pilot line for Corridor C

  • Line from Thionville to Bettembourg
  • Length of the line : 18 km
  • Max speed on the line: 160 km/h
  • ETCS level used on the line: Level 1

  • Date of commissioning of the line: Octobre 2016

Second pilot line for Corridor C

  • Line from Longuyon to Mont-St-Martin
  • Length of the line: 20km
  • Max speed on the line: 100 km/h
  • ETCS level used on the line: Level 1
  • Supplier for the infrastructure: Alstom
  • Date of commissioning of the line: March 2017

CNM (Contournement Nimes-Montpellier) Line

  • Line from Nîmes to Montpellier
  • Length of the line: 60km + connections (20 km)
  • Max speed on the line: 120 km/h (freight trains) - 220 km/h (passenger trains)
  • ETCS level used on the line: Level 1
  • Supplier for the infrastructure: Alstom
  • Date of commissioning of the line: April 2018
STM status and perspective

STM are intended to be used on the network for the following legacy signalling systems:

  • STM KVB for conventional lines
  • STM Crocodile for conventional lines
Other (GSM-R / GPRS / ...)

 

On High speed lines with ERTMS, GSM-R is implemented with double coverage. GPRS will be deployed on Paris-Lyon HSL.
